I was considering buying a 85k-100k mile ‘07-‘11 E90. I want to do the preventative maintenance ASAP so I can get the most out of this car. How much would I need to make it as reliable as possible?

I read that the 316d,318d and 320d have the same engine, just that the 316d and 318d engines are "locked" 320d engines.
I've seen people get the standard 180 something HP you get in the 320d out of a 316d.How is it done? Do you just remap the 316d from its stock 116hp to 180 hp? Do you need some additional parts?
Btw, i am aware that just getting a 320d is faster simpler and saves me a lot of hassle but it is what it is.

Hey everyone,
I'm going to be in the market for a new car next year and I'm torn between the M340i and Merc AMG C 43. But with the latter going i4 hybrid and my neck of the woods not being electric-friendly, the pendulum is swinging to the Bavarians. I also looked at Audis but they just don't do it for me.
My wife and I are on the shorter side, have a dog and no kids, and neither of us like big cars, hence the decision to look at the 3/C instead of the 5/E. I'm coming from an Accord V6 and want something smaller while sticking with 6 cylinders because cars should be fun, dammit.
But that being said, I have no plans on tracking this car (I'll get something else for that) and I want something that can be a capable daily while still letting me have fun ripping through the twisties. I've test driven a F80 M3 and thought it was way too stiff as a daily. I've also driven a (tuned) C 63 and while it was pants-tenting fun, it's completely unnecessary for daily driving and it's somehow even stiffer than the M3.
I know I should test drive both and compare, but neither dealer near me has any C43s or M340is on the lot; there are some en route but they may not get here "until after Thanksgiving." I will of course test both once they arrive, but I want to get some feedback before I put my butt in the seat so I can get an idea of what to watch for and any potential issues that could be present with a CPO.
Can any of y'all give some feedback on these cars as dailies? Thanks in advance!
EDIT: Also, how do y'all get such bonkers deals on these guys? I'd love to know how I can get a $63k car for $50k!
