Subject: How does dealership know if OEM parts?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Hello. Recently had some roadkill damage on my 2018 leased vehicle and filed a claim with insurer. Car was left at an authorized BMW shop for repairs (BMW dealership referred me to them). Appraiser gave an estimate of almost 10k and repairs should start tomorrow. I called Body shop and without identifying myself, they gave me general information that if car is leased, they have to use OEM parts. I don’t know if this is something I have to inform them of or if it’s automatic. Do they even know my vehicle is leased? My insurance company doesn’t cover original parts. I asked for the itemized estimate and see most parts are coded as PXN, meaning after market parts. Nevertheless, my ajuster never brought it up or told me that if I want original parts I’d need to pay the difference. The autoshop also didn’t ask me what option I picked. I only have 7 months left on lease. My questions are: does a lease term require replacement parts to be OEM? when I return vehicle, how will BMW know that they’re not? How do I get my insurance to cover them? I didn’t explicitly bring it up to my insurance because I don’t want to give them the opportunity to let me know - that why I can plead ignorance if I’m slapped with a surprise bill , unlikely though. No gap coverage unfortunately and I am in Quebec.

Subject: Individual Spec? Chip Shortage?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

So I’m looking at 2022 BMW m340i xdrive in the next month or two… I’m really interested in the malachite green individual color — does anyone know how much those might cost? What about opting for the cognac vernasca leather? Or the tartufo merino leather? I haven’t made it to the dealership yet to talk with my guy, and obsiously I know he would have more answers. Just wondered what some of your experiences have been.

Second part of the question, I have heard they’re deleting the touch screen and heads up display from certain models… touch screen I could live without, but the heads up display would really be a bummer. Anyone know if the m340i is not getting touch screen anymore? It’s still listed on the builder on bmwusa.com.

Subject: Anything to look out for buying a 2000 323i?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I'm currently about to purchase a 2000 BMW 3 series, a 323i. It only has 7,000 miles, and the price is $6.5k. I love driving it, I'll take good care of it, a mechanic owned it as a part of his collection. Everything checks out, I understand a BMW costs a lot more than say a camry for upkeep, but is there anything I'm missing here? Looking it up online this car seems like it doesn't have any standout issues.

The reason it's being sold to me is that we've been going to this mechanic as a family / friends for 30 years, so I think it's an alright deal.

Subject: Switched 12V outlets?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Hi all!

I just picked up a used 2017 330e, and been enjoying it so far!

I'm trying to find power for my dash cam and cellphone. So far, I've located 4 total 12v outlets. Center cup holder, behind the center console, in the trunk in the driver's side, and under the glove box in the passenger footwell.

At first both the cup holder and footwell outlets weren't working. But I found and replaced a fuse, and now the cup holder is working. The footwell is not (but I found a forum post that suggests maybe it got knocked loose when someone replaced the cabin air filter. I'll check that out when I get a chance.) Any other suggestions here are welcome!

My biggest question is: which of these is switched off when the car is switched off? I want to leave the dash cam plugged in, so it starts when I start driving.

I can run whatever wires are needed for any of the outlets except the trunk, and maybe even that in a pinch. I intend to hold onto the car for a while, so I don't mind spending some time getting things set up the way I want.

Thank you for your help!

Subject: Buying a 2019 M4 Competition

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Hi All,

Considering buying a certified pre owned 2019 black m4 competition with 14,000 miles on it in very good condition for 67k. Going to finance it with very good credit and low interest rate if I do so. Has this car reached the bulk of its depreciation. Will I be able to sell it in 1-2 years for a similar price or minimal loss? I originally wanted to lease a car but leasing right now is basically equivalent to setting your money on fire and then taking a shit on it. Any opinions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
