Basically the title, I currently have an E61 535i and a Z4M, and I'm considering picking up an E89 Z4 35i as well. They're completely different types of cars, and one would have a 6HP auto and one would have the 7 speed DCT. I understand that a lot of this decision comes down to me personally, but I'd love to hear from anyone who has owned 2+ N54 cars at the same time.

I've been keeping my eyes open and found an 2011 M3 (e93) auto for 25K. 55,000 miles new Michelin pilot 4s tires and brakes.

I feel like this is a pretty solid deal.

Things I've been told to look for. Idle control valve, does it idle nicely Oil leaks on the head Throttle bodies. Not much I can check for on these. Rod bearings, I can't check this other than sending in oil samples.

Anything else I should look for? Some places make it sound like it's a great car. Other sources pretty describe the engine as a ticking time bomb.

I don't really want a lot of headaches and plan on getting a PPI.

Not as good as the homage version from a few years ago

The other day after not driving my car for a few days I was pulling out of my garage and when I went to close my garage i heard my exhaust kind of like switch off for a second and I got in my car to see “engine malfunction: engine power reduced possible to continue to drive”

since then i’ve only driven 4 times, and the message will pop up but it will go away and pop up over and over, typically at higher speeds and RPMs. also 2 out of the 4 times i drove somewhere and then i drove back home I didn’t get any engine malfunction message on my drive home, only when i was first driving the car and to the location.

also I do have a oil valve cover leak that i need to get replaced along with an oil pan leak, both being pretty new leaks

I have a 2011 335xi (n55) with 92k miles

I went to a really reputable exhaust shop near me. I didn’t know exactly what I wanted but I told them I wanted the least invasive to the car + reversible options. He landed on axle back and decided to put it on without me really verifying it. They had already cut the muffler off once I went out to check. I’m upset because I think it made me loose low end torque.. and now my pipe has been cut and I’ve been really upset about it. Should I just re weld my stock exhaust on? Can I buy a new cat system so it won’t have a weld spot? Should I just wait it out? Thanks.
