Subject: 17 Year Old Buys Dream Car, Engine Breaks Within a Year
I bought a BMW Active Hybrid 3 (335i) 2013 July of last year. As you can see in the photos linked below I did a LOT of work to it. New tires, new rims, new mirror caps, carbon fiber spoiler, carbon fiber headlight thingys, completely new paint job, carbon fiber exhaust tips welded on, M3 front and rear bumpers, and soooo much more I planned on doing. In my mind I had actually SUCCESSFULLY managed to get my dream car and was only just getting started. In total I had spent $5,322 and was just about to get started on under the hood mods when my car, without warning, completely stopped in the middle of the intersection. No check engine light, no nothing, just stopped. I shut the car off and turned it back on just to feel the engine quaking like Pompeii. Took me another 3 minutes before I could even get the slightest amount of power it in to move it to a parking lot where I got it towed. After 3 days I towed the car to an auto tech place where the guy told me “I charged the battery because it was dead but that’s not the problem, I can tell without even taking the engine apart that whatever is wrong with this engine is catastrophic. You’re most likely going to need a new engine which we can order straight from bmw Germany but it will cost you $22,000.” He told me that if I wanted him to take apart the engine and ACTUALLY find the problem then he would charge $1.5k. I’m stuck everyone, I still have another $10,000 to pay off on this car and they’re telling me the cars a goner. I’m getting it takin to another mechanic in a few days to make sure the first mechanics idea about the car was the correct one. I’m 18 now and I’m sure many of you have gone through a similar problem or know someone who has, so I’m here to ask for help. What do I do next? What should I do next?
