On the way back from Scottsdale today, encountered a Jag F type that was playing around with me in my 235i... leap frogging each other and getting around slow traffic in the passing lanes for a few miles... hitting high 90s, low 100s.
As we came out of Scottsdale, some lunkhead in a new Mustang 5.0 was making ALL kinds of noise... and suddenly an RS5 comes ripping up next to us.
We proceeded to show the Mustang that the replacement for displacement is superior balance, braking, steering, and high compression turbocharged engines that don't sound like a Russian tank.
I always feel kind of sad for these guys - because I know they drive off going, "But muh 5.0L V-8! How could those little foreign cars be that fast? They must have all had Nos!"
Literally, the 3 of us were trading places, doing up to 130... and... the acceleration on all 3 cars is just incredible to behold - but it is also the assurance that they can snap into a tight spot and brake from speed - and the confidence this gives a driver. I owned a Mustang... you can get ROLLING at high speeds - but changing lanes and STOPPING is an altogether different thing. They named the car right - because it is like trying to hang on to a wild horse that is trying to kill you.
And most of the people who buy them are not good enough drivers to drive them at the limit.
Anyhow, it was an awesome ride home.
