 | This may be a bit controversial, but here goes. Before I say this, I’ve owned many cars, and some SUVs, naturally aspirated, supercharged, and turbocharged. I’ve had 6 BMWs, including an E39 M5, and an (excellent) C63 S AMG, among others.I think the F13 generation BMW M6 is one of the great M cars and it's quite underrated. No, it’s not the NA screamer that is the E92 M3 or E60 M5 (my two favorite M cars) and is not quite as special as those, of course, but it's a great balance of new enough and “M enough” in that it has all the heritage and all the feel of an M car, while being new enough to have modern tech like blind spot assistant, parking cameras etc. They have hydraulic steering, they’re gorgeous yet understated, and they truly have that Jekyll and Hyde personality that few cars can pull-off these days. Even when driven at 3/10ths it still somehow manages to feel special, and matched with the Competition package (ZCP) the steering feel is really great, with a fast ratio, good road feedback, and well weighted when off center, although on-center feel is a little numb. It's more than the sum of its parts or its spec sheet. Best of all, you can feel what the front and rear axles are doing, at all times, and with the car being so wide and so low, it just feels really staunch on the road - super satisfying to drive in 2022. It really has aged well. This is a 2014 Comp pack, with 57k miles on it. I'm a DIYer, and I've done a few smaller jobs on the car, like plugs and coils, oil and filters, turbo coolant lines, and I restored the driver's seat after taking delivery, due to some scuffing on the bolster.
