I’m in an RX350 lease that I could buy out for ~36K (including tax and remaining months of lease payments). The X5 is my dream car but it was out of budget and the maintenance costs terrify me so I went with the safe option when I leased the RX in 2019. However there’s now a pre owned 2020 X5 that I can get for 56K (maybe a little lower). 28K miles not certified but over 2 years left on the warranty. With more than 11K of equity in my Lexus it makes the all in price around $49K (with tax and everything). The original MSRP was around 72K bc it’s fully loaded. I LOVE the car but the financially responsible side of me is keeping me from pulling the trigger. I can afford it, don’t get me wrong, but it’s still a lot of money and I don’t want to regret the decision later. Is the extra ~12K worth it to upgrade?

For those with newer X5s (6 cylinder engine) what have your maintenance costs been like if you’ve had it for awhile? Anyone regret their decision to own one? I’ll plan to keep some cash readily available for repairs. I know they are more high maintenance than Lexus but since I don’t drive very much (working remote) I imagine the low wear will keep things running smoothly for a long time. There is a mechanic here who specializes in European cars so I could likely save some costs there. I just want to know how extreme these repair costs can get so I can determine if this is the route I want to take.

Also curious if anyone has any insight into the cost of the car itself. I know the market is crazy but is 56K a good deal for this car? I know KBB says it is but I’m curious how much more is this than what it would have been before the pandemic and how much the value will plummet when the shortage is over.

I truly love this car but the RX buying option seems the most logical and safe choice. Then again, life is short and maybe it’s worth the extra cost to upgrade? Any insight would be helpful!
