After 15 years of in my career, no kids, and 7 years sharing one car (X3) with my wife I am in a position to buy my dream car.

Unfortunately I don't even know where to start. I live in a super small market, so buying local is going to be really tough. Do I stick to a site like Bring a Trailer? If I see something at an independent dealer what am I looking out for? Do I need to buy sight unseen in this market? Am I crazy for buying a one way plane ticket and expecting to put 500-1000 miles on a car right after I buy it?

There are a lot of guides to buying online, but they are often in not oriented at in demand performance cars like manual M2s. Are there any guides or reading you suggest?
