Subject: Is this a sketchy guy to buy a car from? I’ve been in contact with him but my partner thinks he’s lying about being a private seller thinking he’s a middle man selling a lemon car since the car was photographed in a showroom and not at a personal house…

Subject: Drove the i4 eDrive 40 today...

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

... and I have to say I was underwhelmed.

I'm currently in a 2016 M235i Cabrio (which I love - even though its an M-light) but have been thinking that my next car would be electric. I've looked around at many electric options but so far nothing has really grabbed me.

I've been seeing advertisements for the i4 and iX lately but haven't had the chance to see one in person until yesterday when I took my car in for its state inspection.

One of the salesmen saw me poking around it and asked if I wanted to take it for a drive.

The car was comfortable, the cabin roomy, driving position was what you would expect from a BMW. This particular model was what they would consider the "base" with very few of the bells and whistles that are available.

I was impressed by the size and clarity of the dual display. It seemed easy to navigate and the personal assistant (voice command) is way better than the ancient technology that's in my 2016.

I had the car for about 15-20 minutes, driving it through town and on the highway. Sure the acceleration was stellar - even for a base model, it pushed you back in your seat. When you let off the accelerator, it didn't feel like you were immediately putting on the breaks as some electric cars (including the i3) feel.

But there was just something about it, and I can't put my finger on what was missing. Was it the engine noise? Was it the slight jerk when it changed gears? Was it simply the fact that it was a sedan when I'm used to a sporty little convertible?

I don't know. I was just expecting to be more impressed.

Just my 2 cents.
