Subject: Advice/perspective needed

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I have a manual 2000 323ci with 155K miles that I absolutely love. This is my third used BMW, and I have very few issues at ~25 miles/day driving since 2009, I am the second owner.

My wife thinks that it is an unsafe car for some reason, and has suggested that I get a newer BMW. We have the money for it, and I have been eyeing a couple 2018 340i cars in the $40K price with ~15 - 20K miles. According to IIHS, these are very safe cars, if I understood correctly, and she says go for it.

My question is, since I don’t really need the upgrade, am I better off just saving the cash for retirement, or put off this purchase until later. Or should I ditch the 323ci, because the 340i will be so much more fun to drive. Also, if we are getting closer to the end of gasoline powered cars, and since this may also be a bit of a mid-life corporate sedative purchase, maybe I should go for an M class??? I guess I am also concerned that the newer cars will be too comfy/disconnected from the road. Also I have not seen any of the 340i cars as manuals. My wife drives a 2016 X3, which is comfortable, but not really what I am looking for.

Sorry if this sounds trite, but genuinely curious to hear people’s thoughts.

Thank you for your time!

Subject: e46 inside hood release broken

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

i’m trying to post this in whatever subs that could help because i can’t get my hood open and i have to add fluids and oil.

when i bought the car it had this thing on the end of the cable (pic below) and i could pull it and it would open. so today i did it but the nut thing ripped off along with the little silver wires that were connected to it. is there a way to get into the hood or is it going to be a difficult fix. are the wires that were attached to that thing required to make the cable work, or could i pull the remaining wire with pliers?
