I've got to admit - I love to drive the meeting into the direction of a rathole, get a bunch of people divided on two sides of some issue, then sit back and play Minesweeper while the meeting runs long.

I love doing it. "So, have we accomplished the purpose of this meeting?" The answer is usually yes. And I save everyone 5-15 more minutes of yakkety yak.

I like working from an office because I get to actually be around people again, but if I were working from home I would be perfectly happy to do that.

Lol I play Realm Defense when the meeting isn't relevant. I've played it for two and a half years and I most own all the heroes. I paid for two microtransactions, I think, in all that time. I love a good tower defense game.

Attached screenshot to stay on topic ;p

I have never been able to get into Tower defense games. I find the resource management and planning too much like a real life sim.

The resource management aspect of Heroes of Might and Magic II has me still playing it 26 years later. The feelings I would get finding a cache of crystals or gems back in 1996 bring smells to my nose and the unique aridity of Sacramento summers to my skin.

Then Starcraft had excellent real-time resource management and made me so happy.

The resource management in Armored Core games is also pretty compelling, although the fact you can sell used equipment back for full price honestly takes me out of the hypnosis somehow, lol. I fell in love with mech games watching Thanatos' generation play them on PCs with complicated joysticks. So impressive.

I got all the heroes in Realm Defense now. Next I have to level them up. But stupidly the "levels" in new games are super easy to obtain in a way that's just stupid. What you would call a "level" in an old-school game is called a Rank in Realm Defense, and those are great. But the app game industry making levels almost meaningless makes me cranky. They get you tiny buffs to attack, defense, magic, and stopping power, but it's weak sauce. Anyway, it's not nearly enough to diminish the game, just a pet peeve. But they're releasing new content VERY slowly so I'm not sure I'll keep playing. Or maybe I'll start over.

When I owned at Quake III Arena Mike Magers, Rik Magers brother, Tippy Turtle - got me to play Starcraft with him. He kicked my ass so completely I was instantly like, "Nope... this game sucks."

He knew what to be building so he was always a stage ahead of me - whatever I was building - he had the answer to, in abundance. I get it.. it is a challenging mental exercise on par with chess, poker and Risk - and I probably *could* get good at it if I put the time in. But - at some point those games started feeling like *work* to me - and... also... I tend to be so good that normal people go, "You've got to play with my friend..." and said friend always turns out to be a genius. I dunno - I'd rather beat up on dumber kids than get beaten up by smarter ones. Maybe just me. :D

But I absolutely get you about the idea of a game taking you back in every way to a place and time. A lot of Amiga games and Windows 95 games take me back to early fall in Sacramento between around 87 and 94 - where it is crisp outside but there are wet leaves on the ground and the sky is all purple, with a large yellow moon hanging off in the East and has that angry electric Halloween energy rolling down from the Sierras - like there are pagans up their practicing dark rituals in Placerville.

The was an occult room on Bantoom BBS where someone shared a copypasta about a raising (of the dead) on just such an autumn night. Not sure if it was in Placerville, but I was sitting at a tiny computer desk with a collapsible side tray working on a gold-monochrome monitored "Tandy compatible" 286 in modern beige when I read it.

This is the image room, so I'm trying to paint a picture here. ;)

So, it isn't just me? There is some sort of very occult energy in the Sacramento Valley and surrounding foothills. Growing up, Halloween shows were always placed in places like Sleepy Hollow, NY, the deep south - were portrayed as the spookiest of places. The Finger Lakes, like around Watkins Glenn certainly has this kind of vibe. I'm sure Maine has areas like this - the Wilds of Pennsylvania too... But - really - the Sierra foothills and even the Coastal Ranges seem to take this to the next level, to me.

The Superstition Mountains - I don't really get that mystical energy vibe at all - I thought it would be real strong there, after hearing so much about it. Not so much.
