[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

i do NOT understand why people tolerate the quality maybe it is just that i watch movies on a projector and watch blu-rays ocasionally but yts A/V quality is SO bad i can see compression artifacts every frame with h264 instead of h265 for non-4k encodes

Hello! I'm relatively new to the whole pirating thing and I wanted to try downloading a game but I don't really know what to do. The instructions on the website said to mount the .iso file then start the setup application, but i don't really know how to mount files and i couldn't find any videos, any help would be appreciated thank you

Subject: A book that discusses piracy and its ethics + a few problems with the current book market

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

TDLR; A good book that talks about piracy and its ethical implications.

After yet another "Piracy is theft! Don't pirate our X!" and "you are a pirate! You are the reason the X industry is failing!" I decided that I had enough and made this post. The more time passes, the more problems I find with the legal methods. I would be really grateful if someone knows a book that goes in deep on this topic. Mid time, here are my points (I will talk about books since is there that I have more experience). Feel free to discuss and debate my points.

1 Buying a book gives only cents to the author - When I was a kid I used to believe that authors received the 100% (and if not the 100% at least the 70%) of the profit. 10%-15% for a hardcover copy if you are lucky. If you are unlucky you will end up making cents per copy. The rest of the money will go to publishers and second parties.

2 Fair prices are only in fairyland - Many people who debate me over pirating seem to read very little, and only popular books that get a new reprint every few years. They seem to have never considered what happens to the other books that get only a few prints. I tell you what happens, the price skyrockets until it doesn't reach a stable point at 60-120 (vary from case to case). This not even talking about "technical and specialistic books" (whatever that means) or textbooks, where a fair price is considered 30 bucks. What?
I thought that kindle would fix this. It didn't. Publishers often increase the price of the hardcovers since there is the kindle version for only 10 bucks! About this ->

3 Without piracy many books would be lost - Few books get more than a handful of prints, the rest is destined to have their price skyrocketed and be unfordable for most people (especially technical books). Andrew Loomis was a famous artist who wrote several books, the books have insane prices. Thanks to piracy you don't have to worry about it.

4 Kindle Unlimited/Prime Reading/Scribd, don't solve the problem - It gives cents to authors, the rest is given to the industry of turn. Scribd had to set a limit (a limit that they don't tell you about) about how many books you could read. Regardless, do you really trust those big corporations to manage knowledge without censoring? Scribd already heavy "personalize) your search bar shows you only certain results. For your own good of course.
Most people who use this argument often don't care about the underlying issue and just want to feel good doing it the "legal way".

5 The current book market promotes gaps between rich and poor - Piracy nullifies this gap. A poor and a rich can read all the books that they want, regardless of price, date, or prints.

Well, those are my points. Before closing this post I just want to say one thing: If you want to support the author of a book, just PayPal/Koffi/Patreon/email them. It gives way more money to them than the other methods, and they will know that you support them.

Subject: Can somebody please help me find a working crack for either siemens NX or autodesk inventor for windows 11?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I've tried for days and everything I try to install keeps failing for one reason or another but it's usually something to do with the license server and it not being compatible. I'd really love to not be using windows 11 but I have a 12th gen cpu and want it to run properly.

Honestly I'd be fine with any cad software at this point, those are just the two I've been trained on.

Subject: How to extract PDF from online textbook site Textbookmedia.com?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Someone I know bought the digital version of a textbook from Textbookmedia.com. She wants to use certain features like text-to-speech, and be able to read the book offline on her lunch break at work where there is no wifi. So I am trying to get the PDF file for her.

It looks like they are using a modified version of the pdf.js reader. If I click the hidden "Download" button, I get a pdf file but it's corrupted/encrypted.

Obviously the webpage must be decrypting the contents in order to display them but I haven't been able to find that code yet.

Any suggestions or ideas?

Subject: Seedbox provider copyright policy (ultra.cc)

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I'm thinking of going with a seedbox from ultra.cc in lieu using my subscription VPN on PC. Reading the docs I came across this copyright infringement policy;

https://docs.usbx.me/books/ultracc-policies/page/content-abuse-policy

That looks pretty much the same as my ISP. What's the deal with this? Will I get complaints?

Subject: Paradox Space Game and Creamapi

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Hi,

so I m owning a legit copy of the Paradox space game ending with "aris" but I don't own every dlc. I also used Auto Creamapi many times already but I m always doing some research (if it works with the game) before actually using it. I found something but as it is 2 years old and states that it doesn't work with the new update I wanted to ask if it is working now, oh and if I need the dlc files too. It would also be nice to know if it works with the launcher, I would still like to play with mods like before (if it isn't working I can live with that ig).

Would be nice if someone answered, thanks! (I m not saying the game bc it is against the rules, or am I wrong?)

Subject: can kms products (kms nano, pico, etc) create a security breach in a pc?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

i am investigating some unauthorized access to a google account, most likely within my own pc as i don't see any other devices connected to google for the past month

there were some google ads campaigns created with my account to promote some stuff foreign countries (i didn't even have a google ads account) and of course charged to my credit card.

i don't see any indication that a virus had infected my pc and the only think i cant think of is a KMS backdoor.

do you think it might be a cause for concern?

Subject: VPN Question - Why does my location still show up as my home address on location services?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Hey all, checking out a vpn, signed up for "Private Internet Access" and fired it up for the first time on my Mac laptop.

Right now my VPN says my IP shows me across the country. But when I googled "where am I located" - sites like "where-am-i . net" or "gad-coordinates . net" it still pops up as my home address. These sites basically ask to access my location services and I give permission, and then it shows my home address. I thought location services worked off your IP address?

Please note this is a laptop not my cell phone.

Any insight is much appreciated, as you can tell I'm new to this!
