This won't work. I was brought into the Gifted and Talented Education program when it was called MGM (Mentally Gifted Minors) and CAP (I forget the acronym). I went to one of the first GATE charter middle schools in California. We were told we were the future world leaders of the sciences, academia, politics and industry. It was a fucking DISASTER. We ended up strung out on drugs, fucking like Sr. Year high school kids by 8th grade, ditching class, dropping LSD and doing blow - whatever diversion we could find from an education system that couldn't challenge us or keep us engaged. I took Russian in 7th grade in 1984. Chta Eta? Eta Svet. Dobroya Utra, Commarade. Dasvedanya. A Russian girl told me once I speak "Communist Russian." Seems likely. I took French and Spanish the same year. 8th grade.
I failed everything and ended up in remedial math by the time I was in 9th grade.
When I just stopped *going* because I was sick of the bullshit they were feeding me.
Now I'm 51. I have an M4, M235i and a Denali 2500 in my garage - I'm a published and recognized IT security professional, and I'm basically semi-retired. But let me assure you. The material things you achieve do *not* buy you peace or satisfaction. I may be a pretty smart guy, but I don't know the answer to that question.
But gifted students don't *need* traditional education to succeed. In fact, it can be a detriment. Average idiots who end up doing mediocre public education jobs can't teach geniuses how to harness their power.
In my experience, a fascination with self destruction seems to be a hallmark of excessive intelligence. And normal people can't understand this - but all my "gifted" friends have lived it.
Here is the money shot - I was at the LOW END of the spectrum among my gifted peers on the IQ tests. I'd hit a *high* in the low 120s when my 12 year old friends who could quote the AD&D rules on movement and encumbrance were scoring 130-140.. which *is* genius.
Some of *those* guys are heroin addicts now. Others are master celloists with the Sacramento Symphony Orchestra pulling in $75k a year while trying to survive in California. It is possible to be too smart for your own good.
I feel like we're also generally seen as abrasive, impolite, arrogant and over-confident. This is probably true. But I also believe there is an 80/20 rule in society. No matter what you look at it and how you divide it, 20% of the people are doing 80% of the heavy lifting, and 80% of the people are necessary - but not genuine net contributors to the success of the organizational goal. Most people are fodder. They do the daily grind so that the real producers can do whatever it is that keeps the lights turned on. It is easy to become arrogant and overconfident when you realize 2 of you are carrying every other 8 people around you - but you need them to do the stupid shit that you can't be bothered with. Especially when 4 of them are your superior in the org chart.
If you get this... you may be gifted. If you bury it... bad news, pal... you're average or below. The good news is, so are 7 out of 10 of the rest of your Reddit peers - so dumb has the numbers to win the popularity game. (It sucks being smart enough to *know* this, for sure. But once you figure out the numbers, they don't lie. In majority rules, the idocracy has the advantage. I'm not the first bright guy to gronk the tragedy of the commons or the tyranny of Democracy.)
