Hello former Republicans and conservatives looking for a place to run to! I want to be the first person in r/Libertarian to welcome you to this party. We have some differences in belief of course, but you are welcome here with open arms. We have been trying oh so very hard to get rid of the 2 party system. With your help we can accomplish that! Then we won’t have this nonsense again. So come on in, stay awhile, and enjoy your time in r/Libertarian.
To my fellow libertarians, I think we should welcome the large amount of people fleeing from the GOP with open arms. They could really help us in our quest for a gold White House. Maybe just opening a few peoples eyes that were previously set on the 2 party system can be huge. On both sides of the aisle I have seen people talk about how bad the party is, now is our chance! Let’s be kind and respectful and really show that having another option isn’t so bad after all.

Subject: Anyone left still supporting Trump is not an Patriot
I have not liked Trump from day one, I did not vote for him in 2016 or 2020 yet still I still had a little hope.
I went from when Trump was elected to thinking he might actually drain the swamp and getting someone in there who isn't a politician and will stand up against the media would be a good thing, too, yea he's a moron and says a lot of stupid stuff with not a lot of action, but on a policy level, he isn't bad for a GOP President, too this last 6 months he is straight up trying to destroy our democracy with today being the final straw.
I am so broken-hearted for our nation.
I'm a right-leaning Libertarian/Independent and a Christian and perhaps the thing that has made me sadder than just about anything is how white evangelical Christians rallied behind this evil man. I can see thinking he was the lesser of two evils until the last 2 or 3 months but the sheer number of people actively supporting this vial man is so tragic. I don't know how this country will recover from this. I sadly don't think Biden is the man to do it. Trump and the GOP need to dissolve. It also kills me that the few GOP people I didn't dislike like Rand and Ted Cruz were completely sucked into Trump's radical insanity.
I just need to vent, this is the most tragic day I have ever seen in this nation outside of 9/11.

All the gadsden flag at the capital building have forever tainted its meaning. If there was doubt, that's gone now.

It makes my blood boil to see the poor flag flown by the damn auth-right.

Subject: The recent political enthusiasm in our nation seems to be driven by the fear that "the other team" will destroy the country, as opposed to a healthy democratic interest in a government by its citizens. We don't care about the magnitude of power they have - just as long as "our team" wields it.
Nobody stops to ask "why do I think the entire fate of the nation hinges on two senate seats in Georgia?" But rather "EVERYONE NEEDS TO VOTE SO OUR TEAM WINS"
And once one side wields huge amounts of power, once the other side gets the power, they feel like they have to take advantage of it - and even grow it. And the cycle repeats again. We are here after a long, long time of major growth in government, starting all the way back at FDR.
That, plus social media, puts government in our faces 24/7, which is the exact opposite of what this country should be.
I blame both sides for this.
A faulty premise has been given to the American people, which is: "THIS is your government. Now pick who you want to run it."
When in reality we should be addressing the government itself. But neither side does because they are all too happy to flex the power when they have it.

Americans are divided. The only way to come together is to shrink the size of government and the role it plays in our life. Libertarians have the answer.

Hillary isn't much of a truth teller, but she got this one right.

Yes. Protestors expressing themselves is fine. Freedom of speech is fine.
BUT FREEDOM OF SPEECH IS DIFFERENT FROM USING FLASH BANGS AND CALLING IN BOMB THREATS TO A REPRESENTATIVE BODY OF THE PEOPLE.
My mother and father are both diehard Trump supporters, and they really don’t care that this is happening. They don’t care that our Congress, our representative body, is being barricaded by authoritarians pretending to stand for freedom.
Yet they have the audacity to call me, a registered Libertarian, a “brainwashed” “communist” because I don’t believe in putting children in cages or challenging the democratic process.
I love my parents regardless. It is not that they are ignorant, but just that they know so much that isn’t so.

Subject: The Coup that has happened today has shown us that Trump has turned the party of "Law and Order" to nothing more than terrorists
What happened today will be remembered. I would just like to thank the Senate for putting Democracy over the feelings of an overgrown child.
