Subject: Keyboard and mouse not detected KVM

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Hi,

I was hoping it would work but I have my Mister connected to my HDMI KVM switch and although the signal works the device doesn't pick up the keyboard and mouse. It is connected by a USB to type B, that goes into the switch for input, so I am guessing it can't detect the K&M through this cable and that I'll need to plug them into the Mister itself. Shame really, unless anyone has a solution?

How exactly would I hook up the power button and USB ports? I'd assume I could just use an extension cable internally or something?

Can anyone with a MiSTer help me out…. I bought the VGA to Scart adaptor to play it on a CRT (https://ultimatemister.com/product/rgb-scart-cable/) , it looks amazing on the CRT, but I can’t get any sound. using the audio cable doesn’t do anything, just static noise…

Subject: Is it possible to run KernelEx + Windows 98SE on MiSTerFPGA?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I've always wanted to have some kind of an "off-grid" computer that's unhackable and that has no politics/censorship/SJW/bullying banning me from the things I love, no threeletter agencies to worry about infiltrating my life, no Linux/GPL fanatics telling me to use Shift when I have the CAps LOck DElay GLitch, no SOPA/PIPA/ACTA/CISPA/PRISM/TPP/Article11/Article13/Article17/etc. to be scared of, but where everything just nicely fits a small board on which I can spill my brainguts out and make amazing programs just like back in the day when we were kids wishing to have a portable computer.

So, I came to know MiSTerFPGA and realized that the FPGAs of today are so powerful they can actually indeed run an x86 computer! So, I'm very interested and pleased to see that this stuff actually works!

Now, I'm thinking about what if KernelEx could be installed on Windows 98 Second Edition to run early2000s programs such as MS Office, Movie Maker, Notepad++, K-Lite Codec Pack, Media Player Classic Home Cinema, Audacity, Game Maker 8, The Games Factory 2, and games such as Heroes 3 of Might and Magic, Neighbours from Hell, as well as emulators like Mesen, Mednaffen and BizHawk.

So, here's a question:

Has anyone ever run KernelEx on MiSTerFPGA?

I would love to see footages of it!
Please share! YouTube's search doesn't show me anything good like it did back in 2007.
You guys are amazing!

Subject: MiSTer TOSLINK jack wiring questions

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

MiSTer TOSLINK jack wiring questions

Hi everyone!

I want to add a 'proper' TOSLINK optical jack to my MiSTer for audio output (as opposed to the hybrid 3.5mm jack / LED setup on the IO board) - I'm in the process of making a new enclosure and I'd like to have that port available directly on the back.

Anyway, information or examples of wiring them up is pretty thin on the ground, so hopefully someone here can guide me as to the next step?

This is the part I'm looking at:

https://www.mouser.co.za/ProductDetail/Toshiba/TOTX1950AF?qs=gev7jUp%252BQ%252BhDjDGaeAaJXw%3D%3D

and for the sake of brevity here's a screenshot of the diagram in the datasheet:

https://preview.redd.it/dxzr0kzjmf171.png?width=680&format=png&auto=webp&s=35f911c8550b73ca8726bc86bc34a210478679fb

Vcc and GND are obvious - I assume I can just tap into those wherever - so my question is:

Can I wire the input directly to pin 9 on the DE10 as per the IO board schematic, or will I need to add a resistor / something else?

My knowledge of electronics is too limited to be absolutely sure of what to do without screwing something up, can anybody shed some light on this?

Thanks in advance!

Subject: Cifs_Mount Script - Map Multiple Shares

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I'm using the cifs_mount script built into Mister. And it works great for me. I'm trying to add an additional share to my same NAS box for the ISOs.

This is my example here:

SERVER="MyIP" SHARE="Mister" USERNAME="Mister" PASSWORD="MyPassword" DOMAIN=""

I have an additional share called "Retro_Gaming" That one contains folders leading to my ISOs for various stuff

I tried copying the paragraph listed above and copied below. However, when I try the script, it loads up my first share and says nothing about my 2nd share.

I'm thinking in the end, I may have to bypass using a script and do it directly in Linux. But just curious if anyone tied this via the script and it worked.

Subject: MiSTer on a 4K monitor - I am requesting your help

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Hi all, I have a 4K monitor, this one to be exact: https://www.lg.com/us/monitors/lg-27gn950-b-gaming-monitor

I have also ordered all the parts to my MiSTer and will be setting it up the moment it gets here. However, I’m trying to find out the best settings to use in the MiSTer.ini for my monitor. I’m a fan of sharp, sexy pixels.

I do want to be very clear though, I don’t really know what ā€œscalingā€ means outside of ā€œmake small thing big for big thingā€ so if anyone has any like, quick notes about that, that’d be super helpful too.

What was explained to me by a friend was that I could set vscale_mode=1 or vscale_mode=2 and then video_mode=12 for 1440p at 4:3.

As it stands now, that’s what I plan to do, but I wanted to know if anyone had any other opinions. Thank you!

Subject: ArcadeR Joysticks with custom ArcadeR USB Controller - $30 - Great option for the Mister

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

A few months ago I designed a PCB that incorporated the low latency Daemonbite Controller firmware (based on an ATMega32u4) into the shell of the excellent ArcadeR USB Joystick. I've been using it personally with my PC and Mister for several months and it has been terrific.

Some pictures of the original project are available here: https://imgur.com/a/maZjQg8

A few of the cool features:

  • Shows up as an Arduino Leonardo, so it is fully re-programmable

  • Top two buttons have been replaced with microswitches that are addressable buttons (for use as extra buttons in game/menus

  • Main fire buttons can be linked/unlinked by holding the top two buttons

  • Indicator LEDs shine through the case

I have a few of each of the transparent joysticks available for sale with the ArcadeR USB board installed and ready to go (the original board and cable are included as well).

Transparent Red Transparent Green Transparent Blue Transparent Yellow Transparent Clear

Asking the same price as a standard US delivery ArcadeR ($30+Shipping) but will ship internationally if desired. Feel free to ask any questions about it.

Subject: How to remove presets for Minimig and rename new ones to a sensible name?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

My MISTer is mainly used as an Amiga replacement and while I have been experimenting with various configurations, I'm left with a mess of config files that are all called the same. (Name is chosen by the hardware options you select.) Where do I find these files in the file structure and how do I delete them, and furthermore can I name them to a specific label that makes sense to me? I.E. A1200-AmigaOS3.2, A1200-AmigaOS3.1.4 and so on.
