Subject: Extra game libraries / duplication within a core
Hi all - thinking through using the various cores as well as sharing my gaming experiences with my sons I had an idea of wanting to create a couple of curated "libaries" that would show up in the menu. First: "Top 100 Games", second: "Dad's Games". Top 100 would be a choice my sons (or I) could hit that would contain the top100 games from a console so they're not having to check out 1000 different roms to find the nuggets. Similarly: I would love to introduce my kids to the games I had on the genesis, coleco, etc (and both have a laugh together: See _Moonwalker_).
My thought is to just simply create the folders in the relevant GAMES folder - "_TOP100", "_DADS" and copy / paste the relevant rom files. Herein lies my questions:
- For the same game, one copy in the root directory and one in a subdirectory be treated separately from a memory save state, controller config, etc standpoint or does mister create those by romfilename, so I could have three copies of a rom file and they would "share" that support data?
- For what I'm trying to achieve is there a better method?
Thanks for reading!

Subject: Proper way to do vga to composite out for a CRT?
So I am pulling my hair out trying to get my CRT to work with my MiSTer and hoping for some advice.
I am using the basic MiSTer setup with the io board etc. I followed some setup videos and did the following settings change:
vga_scaler = off
composite_sync = on
Turned the switch on the side of the VGA to "auto"
To start this process I thought it would be easy and I would just plug it in and work.
First I used a basic vga to composite/s-video cable. That would just display a flickering image...
So I switched to a different adapter that was usb powered (axGear VGA to AV RCA Composite Converter Adapter Box USB Powered). This powered converter didn't detect any image coming from the device at all.
The whole time I was connected to HDMI as well to be able to view the menus etc. I tried changing around the settings and rebooting many times with no luck.
Could this be caused by not using a 5v jumper on the io board for VGA? Is there something else I should be trying here (maybe changing the ntsc resolution in the settings?).
I confirmed the vga port and cable is working by hooking up to an external monitor so I am sort of at a loss for what to do next. I was hoping to get a light gun hooked up to it in the future so I don't think I can convert HDMI to composite without getting some lag.
Any advice or experiences with this setup would be much appreciated.

I'm assuming no, but i just had a weird thought. Would it ever be possible or worthwhile to connect two de10 nano's together for a MiSTer core? I assume they may be able to for the purposes of gameboy multiplayer or something one day, but i mean using two boards for one core.

Subject: famicom/nes joycon lock up all inputs when paired
been trying to add the famicom joycon controller to MiSTer and when ever connect either one as soon as it pairs it locks up all input devices forcing a restart to continue. I am updated to lastest afaik - MiSTer v220108, OS v211112.
has anyone sucessfully paired famicom/nes joycons recently? thanks.

I just installed another sdram for the psx core, but that's where the fan on my board used to plug in. Is there an obvious workaround for this or do I just need a new cooling solution entirely?

Trying to define controller for the B0XX hitbox for Melee but can’t seem to map the directional buttons (which are equivalent to the analog stick on gamecube) or some of the face-buttons. Does a regular Gamecube controller work on MiSTer with a Mayflash Gamecube to USB Adapter? If so, is it possible to get the B0XX working on it via USB-C to USB or Gamecube to USB?

Add these specific PSX settings to the bottom of your MiSTer.ini
[PSX] vsync_adjust=0 video_info=0
vsync_adjust=0
should help avoiding the monitor going black when the PSX resolution changes (as it frequently does with many games)
video_info=0
should stop the resolution overlay from popping up every time the resolution changes.

Subject: Looking into getting a MiSTer had a couple questions.
I’m looking at picking up this bundle:
https://misteraddons.com/products/mister-pre-configured-bundle-with-aluminum-case
I’m still a bit confused by the digital vs analog. I’d likely be playing on a digital monitor or hdtv but I’ve also been looking to get a CRT for some Scan line goodness. How well does playing old snes games look on a hdtv through MiSTer? It’s not like playing retroarch right?
If I get the analog I won’t easily be able to connect to an hdtv I’m guessing?
Also I know the dual SDRAM is kind of a thing right now with the PSX core or future cores possibly slightly taking advantage of it but it can also be added on later if I do the digital option.
And lastly if I get that bundle is there anything I should get or is that unit ready to go out of the box?
I’m mostly going to be playing SNES, Genesis, GBA and dabbling in PSX when it gets more stable.

Subject: RSK202/R MiSTer fpga Case - are they any good?
Is it still worth it to get a MiSTer FPGA if I'm only going to play using HDMI? Would input latency still be better than a Raspberry Pi? I'm mainly planning to get one when the PSX Core is complete.

Subject: Looking for schematic for the VGA to Scart RGB cable - What resistors should i use?
![]() | Hello everybody. Looking for schematic for the VGA to Scart RGB cable. I want to connect MiSTer to PVM 2730QM/2130QM. I have read that there can be problems with older Trinitrons. [link] [comments] |
Figured I'd ask this question here since I'm having some trouble getting a clear answer with google. I recently got a mister and have been using it with a JVC i' Art CRT via the add on i/o board and VGA to component cable. While it looks great for 8 and 16 bit consoles, it won't display everything like the PC cores, and using the scrips is a hassle.
I also have a 1440p Asus tuf gaming monitor with 1ms response time and 165hz refresh rate. Does anyone know if I would experience a difference in input lag on the classic stuff if I use the monitor via HDMI over the CRT? I'd ideally like to just have a one display setup that I can use for all cores.
I should also note that I'm more concerned about input lag than getting the CRT look, which can be replicated with scanlines and the shadowmask filters which I am fine with. I'm also using SNAC adapters and OEM controllers for the console stuff.

We'll inevitably get Smash TV and Total Carnage arcade cores one day and I was wondering what the best option for twin sticks at home would be?
I really love these games and can't wait for them to end up on MiSTer, as the best home ports were for SNES and while both are decent they are somewhat lacking compared to their arcade counterparts.

Subject: Cooling and case recommendations without IO board?
After following this project for months, Im finally going to pull the trigger.
Can someone help me out with some case and cooling options please?
I’m not intending to connect to a CRT. I’d love to but I don’t have the space. As far as I can tell, I don’t need the analogue IO board.
I’m also not intending to use digital audio out. Therefore I don’t think I need the digital IO board either.
Without an IO board, what are my best options for cooling the DE10 nano? I’ll be using this in the hot Australian climate so assume I’ll need active cooling.
While I won’t be using an IO board, I plan to get the USB hub and a 128Mb RAM module. What are my options for a good case?
