Subject: Hard drive .img support?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

So I got Aminimiga for my MiSTer. Apart from a ROM I'm trying to hunt down (I think the 1200 ks in one for - even if I have the legal files, I'm missing that one), the problem I'm having is that the hard disk is provided in .img format, not hdf, and MiSTer is not picking it up.

Amy ideas?

Subject: Favourite racing games on MiSTer?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

What are your favourite racing games to play on MiSTer? I've just impulse bought a Logitech wheel and want to see how it works with some different cores. I'm mostly interested in arcadey fun games but any suggestions would be good, particularly out there stuff.

Subject: Mister and sony trinitrons RGB

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Are there RGB cables in some European vendors that support sony trinitrons properly currently? I've read here
https://mister-devel.github.io/MkDocs_MiSTer/advanced/crt/
If you are connecting to a consumer Trinitron you might also need to add an extra resistor/potentiometer to fix odd or not lively enough colours
I planned to use direct video and then use either HDMI to SCART or HDMI to VGA and then VGA to SCART cables. I have a KVM1400D trinitron. In worst case scenario, composite would work properly with trinitron?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I have a PAL TV that has only RF and composite. It doesn't support NTSC, NTSC consoles are black and white on it. I wonder if I could make this TV more useful by connecting Mister via composite, would NTSC games from famicom etc. have colors then?

I have a Nintendo 64, WiiU (covers GameCube and wii), PS2 and PS3. With these and my mister fpga I’m pretty much set for life on games.

Blue moving bar on genesis core

Hello, I'm using the mister trough hdmi on a LG 1440p monitor and on the genesis games appears a blue moving bar only on the left side of the screen it appears to move when I stretch the image, I have tried all the settings I could figure but the only way I can get rid of it is either play with full screen or change from 1080p to 1440p on the mister, this only happens on the genesis core

Subject: NES joypads on various mister adapters - european and american differences?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

There are 2 versions of joypads on NES - european works on american(and famicom as well), but american does not work on european. I was wondering if it matters which version of joypad I would have for Mister.

Any short mini toslink panel mount ideas?

As a temporary fix I removed the panel mounted 3.5 audio jack from my case and ran a mini toslink through the open hole in the back of the case but this leaves a 6ft optical cable always connected to my mister.

Im trying to find a short mini toslink with a panel mountable connector to attach to the back of my case so an optical cord can be plugged in and removed from there but not coming up with much for ideas other than a splitter box which wouldnt be ideal. Any ideas or suggesstions?

Subject: New Arcade Cabinet Build Question - 4-player

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I feel like I'm overlooking something extremely basic and can't wrap my head around it. I'm currently building a brand new, custom arcade cabinet (my first one) and would like to make it a 4-player cabinet.

I know, I know. I've heard all the recommendations about going 2-player instead and using plug-in USB controllers or bluetooth controllers for players 3 and 4, but we have a LOT of kids and their parents coming over and visiting often and would like to be able to turn them loose on a cabinet to give them hours of fun to play around on. This would primarily be an arcade setup for every arcade core that is out, with a secondary function (but of lesser importance) of playing old retro games by plugging wired, usb controllers in, or just using the existing joysticks and buttons just like the arcade cores.

My question here is determining the best way to configure the inputs. I've read recommendations for using 2x i-PAC2s or using 1x i-PAC4s, but I've heard that MiSTer prefers all the inputs to be coming from Xinput style inputs, each with their own encoder, or that it doesn't like straight keyboard encoding for use beyond players 1 & 2. I've even thought about going the route of hooking up 4 separate boards for all the separate players with a Brook Fighting Board or something similar, but that can get a little expensive.

I think my preference to keeping things clean would be to go for the i-PAC4 and be done with it, but does that work with the MiSTer for players 3 & 4 yet? Is there anything special I'm supposed to do to get them working properly? Do those boards support going Xinput mode and would that work for all arcade and console cores available? Am I even asking the right questions or misunderstanding something so rudimentary that is just common knowledge for all those already well vetted and experienced in the field of arcades?

I haven't really purchased anything beyond just the DE10-Nano board so I don't have the baggage of trying to get some legacy setup or board working. I'm attempting to grasp an understanding of what would a person need to know to get a new, 4-player arcade cabinet operational with a MiSTer in 2023. I'm sorry if this has already been asked before, but I couldn't find anything that was speaking clearly enough for my feeble brain to understand. Thanks in advance!

I know I can just used a fixed ip, but I am working on a tool that will address a user's mister by name and I would really like it to be mister.local on every system it encounters.

Subject: How do controller input profiles work on MISTer FPGA?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I'm going to be hosting a local fighting game tournament in a couple weeks, and we'll be using a couple of MISTer FPGA's for the most accurate experience possible. Concern has been raised about competitors having to set up their controllers for every set though, which could lead to a lot of confusion if someone messes something up. What I'm wondering is this- how does button remapping for individual controllers work on the MISTer FPGA? Does the MISTer create an individual profile file for every new controller mapped in the menu? And if so, is it possible to download pre mapped controller profile files and put them on the MISTer?

If anybody understands how the button mapping works, or where I might find these pre mapped controller profiles, please let me know.

Subject: Moving Mister from monitor to normal TV and back

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Sort of an unusual situation so I hope you can help! I currently have my Mister set up in the basement using an HDMI to Analog converter, plugged into a 4x3 VGA monitor where it has lived for years. I had a fairly major surgery recently and really, really don't want to go up and down the stairs to play my Mister.

What is the correct way to set the Mister up to play it on my 4k in the living room? Is it as simple as backing up the existing config file and building a new one for the TV, then restoring the old one when I eventually bring it back downstairs? Do I need to do any fiddling with switches? I currently have the audio running from an optical to aux converter.

Please help! I feel foolish having to ask, but it's been so long since I set this up, I don't remember how anymore lol
