Subject: Microvitec monitor - strenge behaviour

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I recently got a Microvitec multi scan monitor for my a1200. Judging by the connections it has, maybe built for the US market? It has a vga connector and C13 male for power. All is fine except when I start a game (Colonization in this case), it starts nervously switching screen modes - looks like maybe between pal and ntsc? I don’t know. Is there a driver or something I should be aware of?

Subject: Games suddenly look weird

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

This suddenly started today when I start games that were fine yesterday.

Workbench looks normal and so does most other software. What could be wrong here?

Subject: A few questions about controllers...

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Hi, first time caller, long time admirer of the Amiga computer. I was that teenager in the computer store who stared longingly at the Shadow of the Beast demo, until the clerks shooed me out the door.

I never got to buy an Amiga while it was commercially viable, getting most of my information about the system from magazines, and later emulators. So I may have a few misconceptions about the system, which I hope you can correct or clarify.

  • When the Amiga launched, what joysticks were available?
  • Was there ever a first party or stock joystick?
  • Was the Amiga originally intended for single button joysticks?
  • When were the first multiple button controllers made available for the Amiga?
  • Was there ever a push to adopt a standardized multiple button controller?
  • Did games like Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter have one button joystick modes?

Thanks for any elucidation you can provide.

Subject: A500 - Doing its best Virtual Boy impression.

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Hi all! I'm pretty new to Amiga hardware, as I just bought my first A500 from a coworker along with the rest of his Amiga collection. He was using a powered CGA-to-VGA converter to hook the computer up to an LCD screen, with a DB23 to DE15 cable going into the converter and a DE15 to DE15 cable going from that to the display. (He also had a 1084S monitor which seems to work, but there's no cable in the collection with the DB9(?) connection the monitor uses, and he said he never used it himself.)

Using the same converter he was using, I'm seeing some weird color issues. Namely, pretty much everything is pink. I initially thought maybe the blue and green signals weren't coming through the DB23 port, but there is some blue here and there and I've even seen some orangish red that definitely has some green in it. Here are some photos of the "insert Workbench disk" screen and the intro sequence to Shadow of the Beast:

So far the only real troubleshooting I've done is to remove the RAM expansion module from the bottom expansion port, which didn't change anything. I've Googled it and seen suggestions that such an issue might be caused by a bad RF modulator, or that the power supply might be dying, but I'm hoping the photos I provided might help to narrow it down. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance for any help/advice!
