Subject: If the Amiga had been as popular in the US as in Europe, how might have history been different?
As we all know, the Amiga was quite popular in Europe and Australia...and pretty much no where else. How might have history played out if the Amiga had been equally popular in the US between 1984-1995?

Hi all! I grew up on C64 and, of course, always wanted an Amiga. Now it's a reality! Through good luck, I've acquired an A500 Rev 6A, an A500 Rev 5, and an extra Rev 5 motherboard. All tested and working, after a scare from one of them in which the video fizzled out as smoke wafted from the machine. Original Shoei caps failing just made a resistor smoke a bit and VIDIOT is still OK, phew!
I'm in the USA... on my late-model C64c, I only had to replace the VIC-II and crystal and solder the jumper to enjoy some fine demoscene productions. I'm getting mixed messages as to what I need to do on A500 to get PAL demos and software running.
Any advice? I already modded a GBS8200 with gbscontrol, so no concerns about getting PAL video to display properly.

Subject: I think they have blown it with the A500 mini not being usable with joysticks
edit: oops sorry thought I was in the A500 mini sub
the majority of Amiga games were made for joysticks, given the whole market for this is based on nostalgia you would think this is something they would offer for the authentic experience. I bought a two button joystick and it appears the two buttons correspond to the A500 mini's B and Y so cannot press A to select or fire in games. I tried a logitech F310 gamepad which also demonstrates B=A and Y=X (works perfectly otherwise, including the analog stick by the way). I even understand the joystick they sell themselves do not work. Just seems like such a blunder, hope they release an update but it has already tarnished the experience. Spent hours trying to fiddle around with the amiberry menu but to no avail. very disappointed

So I've gone back to a few old games (mainly platformers so far) and it's kind of eye opening how so many of them lack in some basics like user feedback when you take a hit, variable move speed (you're either full on sprinting or you're stationary, hello Harlequin) and the player moving right to the edge of the screen before the camera starts panning. Plus the general lack of any sort of difficulty easing (bloody Nebulus! Died within 5 seconds of playing). I also don't particularly want to be fighting the player just to move (Hudson Hawk - I'm looking at you).
I'm not trying to shit on old games, I love them for what they are, but it's pretty clear that there wasn't a depth of user experience as a foundation for making games accessible. But what games actually got it right?
As a side note. I played through the South American level of Rick Dangerous last night. Man, talk about trauma induced memory reflexes... I still remember where all the hidden traps are in that game, the movement actually feels pretty nice in RD though.

Subject: Good, standalone Amiga emulator for Chromecast?
This one's a bit of a long shot but...
Does anyone happen to know of a good, *standalone* Amiga emulator for the Chromecast with Google TV (CCwGTV)? Yes, I can use RetroArch + included core, but I was looking for something outside of that ecosystem.
The Chromecast runs a 32bit version of Android, so the standard stuff in the PlayStore generally doesn't work.

Hi! I'm new here so I hope this isn't a duplicate post. I have an Amiga 2000 (4.2 motheboard) with ECS, Gotek (df0:), two floppies, Terrible Fire TF534 accelerator, 1084 monitor, dual ROM switcher (1.3 and 3.X), original power supply replaced with an AT supply.
It boots and runs great, but sometimes when I do a Amiga-Amiga-Ctrl reset, I get a yellow screen and power light flashes 10 times. It eventually resets but sometimes requires a power off/on cycle. The machine has been thoroghly gone through, cleaned, battery replaced (no damage to MB), capacitors checked, etc.
Can anyone advise as to what is causing the occasional yellow screens? Any help is appreciated.
Thanks!

Subject: Amiberry on retropie. Sound lag, how can I set sound buffer size to default to 4 instead of 8?
Sound lags on amiberry on retropie with default settings on sound buffer size.
If I reduce that to 4 everything seems to work great, but I have to do this for every game I start.
default_sound_buffer=4 in amiberry.conf does nothing.
Anyone knows how to set sound buffer size default value to 4?

Subject: Can anyone help me find an old Amiga game called Tanx?
Hi everyone. I’m trying to find a game called Tanx as a .lha file. I can’t find it anywhere online and have been really looking forward to playing it again on my A500 Mini. My brother and I spent hours at a time when we were young blowing each other up. Can anyone help please?

So I picked up (broken) Wing Commander floppies (or at least they've been corrupted since being mailed which sucks but it's life) but I found adfs online to supplement the floppies and I'm giving her a go, but I was wondering what you guys think about the Amiga version and how it compares to the DOS version. I actually haven't played either fully (yet! I just started this guy) but Wing Commander is one of those games everyone recommends, and the original DOS version is like ~$100 on ebay. Funnily enough I have the SNES version too but I've heard that that one isn't that great so it's just been sitting around collecting dust.
Also, I can't control you all but since I'm flying into this game on just recs, no spoilers please! I just want a sense of how well either plays if you've done both without too many specific details.
