Subject: Playtesting sign up

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Hi all,

I know this is an Amiga subreddit but we're all gamers, right? :)

Anyway, my buddy works at a games company; People Can Fly (they made Bulletstorm and more recently, Outriders) and he has asked me to spread the word regarding their playtesting sign up. Basically they want people to play their games (remotely - worldwide or in a lab) or potentially take part in surveys and interviews about games etc. Apparently they hand out prizes for surveys and interviews but also give gifts for each game playtested etc.

So, if you like games it seems like a nice way to contribute to the gaming community and have some fun playing and talking about games and potentially win something as well.

Anyway, if you're interested, here's a link to their sign up page:

Subject: Map keyboard to joypad?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Friend banged on about Amiga when I was a kid using the Amstrad CPC, the Mega-Drive, and later the PC, but only now am I giving it a go via FS-UAE Launcher and I am hating the experience so far. It took time and patience to learn about Kickstart ROMs, using Amiga Forever, understanding WHDLoad, signing into OpenRetro, and now it is all finally setup, however playing the games are not enjoyable and I think a lot of that has to do with using a gamepad. It seems the games are not using them efficiently when there wasn't a standard controller, so many games seem to only have 1 button gamepad / joystick configuration. I started with Aladdin as I was very familiar with that on the Mega Drive, and woof.

Has any champion got configuration files or something that allows remapping keyboard keys to gamepads as I think that would greatly improve the experience, no up for jump for example? I can do it via a Windows app, but each Amiga game has their own keyboard buttons, so something pre-configured for the most popular games would be amazing.

Subject: Those old Amiga Power reviews are infuriating.

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I never read Amiga Power until the last few days but now that I have I'm really put off by how bitter those reviewers are. They spend half the reviews making what they think are clever jokes, give the actual game they are reviewing no real coverage and then finish off by telling you to buy a different game. Any game that resembles another game is an immediate flop to them. It's like they had expected every game to invent a new genre. You have to wonder if they were surprised when Amiga Power was shut down, they seemed like they wanted to see Amiga die.

Subject: 2000HD with A2320 to HDMI?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Hi, I have an A2000HD, with the Commodore A2320 flicker fixer installed. Considering it’s been 20 years since I’ve turned it on, my memory is foggy on it, but I believe the 2320 gives a VGA output.

If that’s true, would I just need to find a VGA to HDMI adapter to use a modern monitor? Or would I need something else?

Subject: Was it rare for Amiga games to un at a full 50Hz?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I've just got my old 1200 recapped and setup with a WHDLoad installation, primarily for playing SWOS on real hardware (emulated versions just don't cut it).

Something I've noticed, going through some games, is that few of them seem to run at 50Hz. Most of them are either 25Hz or lower. Even an AGA game like Banshee, which I expcted to be silky smooth, sort of chugs along at 25Hz.

Datstorm, which I'd not played before, but as a big Defender fan I was keen to check out - also is surprisingly sluggish.

Sensi/SWOS really stands out in this regard, and looks like silk. What other games are out there that run at a solid 50Hz?

Ok so I was around the Amiga in the late 80's, got my A500 when I was 15 in 1989 I did get a A1200 later, but moved to the PC and consoles around 1994.

I always hear about Commodores bad business decisions which is why the Amiga when down the drain, but I don't think I ever knew what they were.
