Subject: New Amiga Game Development From Apollo-Team: Remake of the famous Amiga Menace
Subject: MNT ZZ9000 Amiga Graphics Accelerator + Network, USB
I'd forgotten how hard some of these games were. My eldest gets bored when she can't get some momentum in a game, which at 4 is fair enough.
To the best of your memory/knowledge, are there any colourful, fun and forgiving games I might introduce her to? Something like a Superfrog or Parasol Stars but with a "no death" mode / super super easy mode? Or frankly, any fun game that has an ultra easy mode?
Mostly looking for something (1) fun (2) will train hand eye coordination (3) pass the time while in COVID iso.

![]() | I have always loved the Amiga 500, it helped me a lot in the past due to my autistic nature I never got humans but technology I got, many 100's of hours in the 80's were spent playing on my 500 instead of doing college and uni work, yes I failed both :D but I don't regret a moment of it. My favourite games were Dungeon Master, Xenomorph and Stunt Car racing. Well I've been eyeing the following since it showed up on twitter at the beginning of April. Commodore Amiga A500 - Refurbished Special Edition (retropassion.co.uk) And I just paid the deposit on it. It is just about the sexiest thing I have ever seen. [link] [comments] |
Subject: Does anyone use AmigaOS as their daily driver?
With the advent and proliferation of Linux distros, I haven't used / needed use Windows for several years. If Chromebooks show us anything, it's that for the average user, were probably at the stage that the OS matters less than the apps it can run.
Which got me to wondering - to anyone that runs the later iterations of AmigaOS (4.1 was the latest?), are you able to do your day to day computing with it comfortably?
Tasks like browsing web, media playback, word processing etc?
IIRC, AmigaOS is tiny and I'm willing to bet lightning fast on more powerful machines (PPC only?). But is it useful in 2022 for day to day work?

Subject: What are the minimum specs for running IcarOS?
I'm finding conflicting results in Google searches. Had the idea that it might be amusing to run it on an old white Asus 701 EEEPc for a true "mini Amiga laptop". Is that possible / viable?

In my brain - and mostly because of the Amiga mags I read back in the day - I had the idea that Amigas were a British invention. Apparently not.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_British_computers
That makes the whole "popular in Europe, ignored in US" thing even more interesting to me, given Commodore International was (apparently) founded in Canada, did its finances in the Bahamas, prototyped in Pennsylvania and distributed out of Germany.

Crazy to think they were doing over a billion dollars (US) of sales in 1983, only to go up in a cloud of smoke ten years later.
Anyway, TIL.

Hi all.
Premise: I'm not the biggest tech guy, just your average nostalgic fan who grew up with an Amiga 500 (in a place where very few people owned one). I decided to buy an a500 mini for a quick nostalgic trip. To make it short, one of my favorite game was Rodland and I was eager to play it. I know that it's expected to have few emulation problems with these things, but, weirdly, I was able to boot and play the game smoothly. Then, on the high score screen, the game sorta froze after I inserted my name. I relaunched it and after that, no matter what, I always got an error at the start. Even deleting everything and downloading the .lha from scratches didn't work. I usually give up when something just doesn't work, but what leaves me puzzled is that I was able to play it normally for a game so I wanted to ask if anyone here has any idea of what could have been the issue. I took the .lha from GamesNostalgia and it's RodLand_v1.4_1509.lha.
This is the error: https://imgur.com/a/ct8zRuF
Many thanks to whoever is willing to help.

Came across this, in case of interest to anyone
This is what I've found out about the A500 so far, in semi-random order - >updated as I go:
- Hardware:
- H6 SoC (SUN50IW6P1)
- 512MB of DDR3 memory (instead of LPDDR3 that most SBC's seem to >use)
- 256MB (2Gb) NAND - no eMMC unfortunately
- NAND ID is 98 da 90 15 76 16 08 00
- The UART serial port is the one with the filled-in pads behind the right-most >USB port (looking at the PCB to the USB/HDMI/power ports)
- FEL mode can be achieved by:
- Keeping '2' pressed in an UART sessionwhen powering on
- Keeping the UBoot button pressed when powering on
The OTG/FEL port is the first USB A port, next to the HDMI connector
U-Boot:
Can be interrupted by holding the 'S' key in an UART session
Supports bootm, boota but not bootz
Can read but not write from USB
UART communication is a bit weird, the last character typed is ignored until >another character is input - not sure if this is just with my A500 and serial2USB converter
Kernel: Linux version 3.10.65 (chris@puck) (gcc version 4.9.3 20150113
(prerelease) (Linaro GCC 4.9-2015.01-3) ) #32 SMP PREEMPT Fri Nov 12 >10:48:03 GMT 2021 64-bit aarch64 The initrd ramdisk init has been modified to ignore console settings and
ignore the ramfs parameter, so no easy way to get into the initrd shell by >adding ramfs to to the kernel bootargs or dropping into a login shell by >providing a non-existent rootfs parameter

What languages did developers use to design apps & games in the 80’s for the Amiga 1000 & 500? Since Amiga supported multitasking, I’m guessing assembly language (for M68000) & maybe C?

Hi,
I recently relocated to Vienna, Austria.
I would like to organize a meet with some retro computing enthusiasts.
Anyone in?

Subject: Can you help? I created some higher quality 3D Game Boxes for some of my Amiga games but they look a little too sharp around the edges. Does anybody know how to make the edges looks more natural? I've got 50+ boxes so something with a batch process would be good.
