Please help with Amiga 500 Purchase

Hi. I have just bought this Amiga 500. Can anyone explain to me if it is a good board to start with. Possible IDE (A590) Whdload/ 1mb chip ram (there is a space for them but not soldered - I guess?)/ Terrible Fire 534.

My last amiga was 25 year ago. I want to play old games from hdd/whdload. Should I keep it or seek another board rev?

Thank you for help.

Amiga 1081 monitor with missing front flap - 1084 compatible?

https://preview.redd.it/suy0fid53xx81.jpg?width=4000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c19d2b9911ea75b50edeacd763b82c06acdea389

Hi all,

found this Amiga 1081 monitor on ebay for 80 Euros and so far it's been doing its job very well. :) Just the front flap door is missing and from what I heard and read, they are hard to come by. (If you have any sources, happy to hear from you). Found one for a 1084 on Ebay and wondering now...are they two the same built / dimensions - would it fit on my monitor?

Looking forward to your replies :)

Subject: a500 video issue

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I am having an issue with my amiga 500 and could use some help. Please see the below imgur link. Would anyone know why the garbage on the screen and the scrambling is happening? There should be a scoreboard overlay on top of the video instead of the garbled graphics you see in the video.

To give context - this is running mad dog mccree with a rom board inserted. It is using a genlock to overlay graphics on top of the video and we know the genlock is working properly as it works fine on another a500 we have when set up with the mad dog mccree rom board and video. We have changed the video capacitors and the cia chips and are still having this problem. If any expert could point us in the right direction that would be great since we don’t know too much about troubleshooting the a500!

a500 garbled graphics Thanks!

Subject: How to load an ADF

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Hey,

I've recently bought myself an Amiga 500 as a "challenge" for myself (i am 13yo, also, my dad had one back then and he'd like to play some games on it) and so far, i've made great progress. There was a floppy disk collection included and i know all the basics now. The problem is: 90% of the floppy disks are (obviously) broken as they haven't been used since 1998, so i bought a gotek floppy disk emulator. This one to be exact. It works great, except it doesn't work.

The Problem: I can't select an ADF File. Well, technically i can but i can't make the amiga boot from it and that's the problem. I can change the name of the ADF that's displayed on the OLED Display but i can't make it so that the gotek says "Hey dear amiga, here's your file :)" and because of that, it's basically useless. I'm currently desoldering a rotary selector from a different project and connecting it up to the gotek, so i hope that will enable me to select images but i'm certain it won't change anything. I've also tried shorting the "JA" pins but they weren't helpful either, they only get me into a submenu where i can copy and paste and stuff.

Can somebody please give me a comprehensive guide on how to use the gotek floppy emulator?
I've been wrestling with this damn thing for three hours now and i didn't have any success.

Subject: A2000 with a AD516

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Does anyone have this configuration? I also have a PiStorn 2K Emu68. I am using Kickstart 3.2.1 and OS 3.2.

I installed ahiusr 4.18, AD516's AHI, studio 16 3.01. Studio 16 sees the card but it doesn't come with samples to test it. 😞

I installed AmigaAMP and mpega.linrary and setup the AHI unit 0 and 1 to use the AD516 with stereo ++ as amp recommends at startup but as soon as I load any MP3 the Amiga crash (goes into full lock up).

I tried EaglePlayer but it didn't have MUI as a default add on that is required so I couldn't get it working.

I am open to other suggestions to try.

Thanka

Subject: Pcmcia > compact flash drivers help?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Hey people, I got hold of an a1200 recently and as an easy and cheapish way to transfer files got a pcmcia to CF adapter, with a floppy off ebay containing the relevant drivers apparently. Now, judging by the guide on EAB, I need to put the fat95 driver and the compact flash. Iha into some folders in :devs and :L,

My problem is, the contents of my disk are not the. Iha files but rather one that contrails files named "install, mount pcmcia, adfblitzer, source, shell, a readme, and a adfblitzer docent file"

Clicking install or mount pcmcia returns an error..

Being new to amiga im probably doing something basic very wrong.. Could there be hidden. Iha files on the disk? Any idea what I'm doing wrong or if I've even got the correct pcmcia floppy? I'm beggining to think maybe the drivers arnt actually for pcmcia to CF adapters but maybe some other pcmcia device..

Any advice great fully recieved. It's certainly not quite as easy as I'd thought.. And apologies! And hello!

Subject: Amiga 500 “Restoration” Help

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

So I recently bought an Amiga 500 from eBay after wanting to do some retro gaming on it, although there are some things that I would like some help with.

To start, it did not come with any necessary items such as the mouse, monitor, and power supply. This A500 didn’t look like it was missing anything when I looked at the motherboard, except the floppy drive slot off to the side.

My plan is to buy the missing items (except the monitor, I would like to use a VGA adapter to connect it to a TV or other monitor with a VGA port present; the floppy drive slot, where I would use the GOTEK .ADF file system instead; and the mouse, hopefully finding a USB adapter for it) on eBay.

This leads to two questions: 1) Besides eBay, are there any other websites that could sell the products that I’m looking for? 2) What would be the best (and hopefully cheap-ish) products that I should purchase for optimal performance?

Subject: Programming language suggestions for beginner?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Say someone without any experience wanted to program a game for Amiga. Is there a good starting point / course / language that one could learn on PC (something with good tutorials, hand holding or community support) that could be then easily ported to Amiga? I have a few ideas that have been kicking around for two decades that I'd like to bring forth, incrementally.

I imagine the tools and resources on windows / Linux are vastly easier to use than those native to Amiga itself?

I also understand things like Blitzbasic etc exist - is this a good point of entry? I've seen recommendation for Lua also.

Any help appreciated.
