Subject: Alien Breed Special Edition 92???

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

IDK if this is the best place to inquire about this but here goes:

So for context; a while back I purchased Alien Breed on GOG. Good game, having fun with this. But I decided to check out a longplay and was confused as to why the level design looked completely different. So I looked into this and learned that the GOG release is the DOS version of Alien Breed which is actually a port of "Alien Breed Special Edition 92" which was initially released on the Amiga.

On Mobygames ABSE92 is described as follows: "An interim between Alien Breed and [Alien Breed 2]... The Special Edition 92 includes 12 new levels-"

The title of ABSE92 implies it's an enhanced version of the original Alien Breed with more features, but everything I've found seems to indicate that it's a completely separate game. To quote a certain Angry Gaming Nerd "I'm chronologically confused!"

So my question is this: Is Alien Breed Special Edition 92 a sequel to the original Alien Breed, or is it an enhanced edition of the original game?

Subject: A500 Mini - Firmware and WHDLoad not working

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Just received the A500 Mini and ran into two problems:

1 - Firmware doesn't update. The system utility recognizes the downloaded 1.1.1 update on the USB stick and appears to install it. It restarts the A500 but if I go back into the system, it still shows the older firmware and asks If I want to install 1.1.1 from the USB stick - it will just repeat this cycle.

2 - WHDLoad games fail with error: "File is not executable". I'm seeing this same error for any WHDLoad files including the bonus game directly from the retrogames website.

Also, I would like to use an Xbox USB controller as a joystick - should that work? If I plug the Xbox controller in, it mostly works but the thumbsticks don't appear to function using the built-in games.

Subject: A500 Mini won't power off

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

When I go to Shutdown within the menu screen the video cuts off but the system stays powered on, with both the Power and Drive lights remaining illuminated. I can only power the system off and back on by unplugging the power cable. I assume this isn't normal.

Subject: Came into some old games. Are these worth anything? Where can I sell?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Hey there!

So, I recently came into a collection of old amiga games and some other retro games (Listed below) and wanted to know what their actual value would be, as well as where I can list them. Amibay isn't accepting new registration right now, which is unfortunate, and I wasn't sure where to turn to figure it out. I'll list my collection below:

QIN, Star Trek, 25th Anniversary, SimEarth, The Summoning, Leisure suit Larry: Looking for Love, Nobunga's Ambition, DnD Eyye of the Beholder, Lemmings 2, The Koshan Conspiracy, Elder Scrolls arena for IBM PC (Sealed), Knightmare, Elvira Accolade, The hunt for red october, Astronomica, DUNE, and Conquest of the new world.

There's also a few what appear to be demo disks/floppies for various software demos from the old Commodore RERUN magazine.

I have no idea what any of these are worth aside from ebay listings which have a tendency to inflate the prices. Can anyone give me a more accurate answer, maybe give me a ballpark or a place to list these?

Subject: [amiga mini] Starting games with usb + two joysticks plugged in?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

You can only start games from usb-stick with the home button? Very inconvinient with two joysticks plugged in. Is there a way to start the software with only "buttons"?

Subject: Need help for a HDD Image on WinUAE

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Hello, I need your help. I have an HDD image on the PC with Workbench 40.29.

So far so good. This image only has WHDLoad 1.5 on it. I would like to do the new 1.8 on it. But when I want to install, the error message always appears: The "Installer" program cannot be found.

The fault is clearly with the HDD image. How can I install this installer afterwards?

As I said on the PC with WinUAE. I hope someone can help me.

Gladly also in German, that would be easier for me.

Thank you very much.

Subject: A500 Mini - Sound issues on .LHA games from USB

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Has anyone else been experiencing ound issues with .lha games being run from the USB?

Playing Global Gladiators and Agony today, and both seemed to be clipping a lot, really blowing out the sound. It seemed to be especially prevalent whenever there's both sfx and music going at the same time. Thinking back to my old real Amiga, I thought that it usually dipped the music out to play the sfx, but on here it seems to just be clipping a lot and generally sounding awful.

I'm guessing this is probably just me and/or the .LHAs I have. Just curious if anyone else is noticing it.

Subject: CD32 Cap Kit values

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Hi all, I've a CD32 cap kit I bought here, and two of the values seem under the value of the caps they're replacing.

In the console, there are x4 4.7 35A caps, but the replacement kit has x4 4.7 25Z caps. Similarly, in the console are x3 10 35A caps and X1 36A cap, and in this kit are x4 10 25V caps.

The rest of the replacements either match/exceed requients so they're OK, but the ones I mention above mean I'm not sure if they're safe/OK to use?

Subject: Millennium 2.2 AKA Millennium: Return to Earth name confusion.

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

So, I've run into something confusing and I'm hoping one of you might be able to clear things up for me. I was always under the impression that Millennium (one of my fav games of all time) was only released as Millennium 2.2 on the Amiga, then as Millennium: Return to Earth on DOS. I'm holding, in my hand, a copy of Millennium: Return to Earth for the Amiga though. I picked it up off eBay the other day. Any thoughts?
