Subject: A500 - Question about CPU relocators, terriblefires, things bumping in to things.. etc

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Hello,

I have been trying to upgrade my Amiga 500 about as far as it will go. In my quest I have acquired a Terriblefire 536, as well as some other upgrades. I also ordered an ACE2b chipram upgrade. I removed the terriblefire, installed the ACE2b, then discovered the Terriblefire no long fits back in the case. The problem is the right angel relocator that I have for the terriblefire hits the top of the ACE2b (OH NO!). What would be the best solution in this case? I figure I can get an empty 68000 socket, plug that in to the current 68000 socket on board, then plug the relocator in to that. Of course I am unsure if this would push things so high they would interfere with the keyboard. I have also found this https://www.ebay.com/itm/115378952917 . I am not sure if the Terriblefire will still fit if it is just pushed straight back. The last option I guess would be to see if I can sell off my Terriblefire 536 to someone and then buy an accelerator like the Individual Computers ACA500 which sticks out the side of the Amiga. Any input on this issue would be highly appreciated.

I build physical board games using the Commodore Amiga, featuring authentic pixel art, embedded animations, and a play alongside soundtrack. My 3rd Kickstarter is live, and I would love the Amiga community to get behind it...

Okay, first things first. I wanted to be a programmer. I must have spent hundreds in the last 10 years acquiring books on the 68000, including all of the Amiga reference guides and most of the modern books out there. I have built using AMOS, but Assembly was the true Everest for me to conquer.

I don't know what it is, maybe a lack of screen stamina (that seems to be increasing as I am getting older, does anyone else have this)? Perhaps it is a lack of a truly mathematical mind, but it is taking me ages to master coding, especially Assembly on the 68000, the Amigas main processor...

CIVITAS 2230 - The Cyberpunk City Builder for 1-4 Players. See the Kickstarter Campaign link below...

This is the link to my current Kickstarter Campaign.

Aside from my absolute love for retro gaming I have a big obsession with board games. I get the same nostalgia hit I used to get when purchasing Amiga games from back in the day - tearing the cellophane, opening the box, reading the manual, (giving it sniff), and my collection (see KS video) has gotten quite serious over the years. Especially, solo board games (yep 1 player tabletop games), of which I am a particular fan...

My first game, the Cyberpunk Detective, solo player game Civitas Nihilium. Also available as a standalone pledge or a combo add-on with this Kickstarter.

This is the link to my current Kickstarter Campaign.

So stumped at the many hurdles of creating loops, subroutines and raster interrupts, I morphed my expertise into board game design. It just so happened that during my adventure into trying to make my own computer games with the Amiga, I learnt PixelArt on DPaint, and the wonderful world of working with Sound Trackers like Music X (THANK YOU AMIGA FORMAT COVER DISK!!)

There is a brilliant Amiga Format video on YouTube that some absolute legend has uploaded teaching you how to use this great tracker. I also managed to get the original, mainly for the manual and collecting purposes.

After two successful Kickstarter campaigns, I am still using the Amiga to build the art and sound foundations of these games. I LOVE USING THE AMIGA.

But obviously my idea to do things this way is separating the board game purists with many millennial board-gamers asking...

"But why? Why would you use an old ugly computer to make a board game?"

"Oh, another modern Pixel Art board game! Why?"

"That must be so slow. I don't think people are going to appreciate this. Sorry!"

The only answer I can really give is...

"Because I want to make games using the Amiga! Oh, and btw the Amiga is not ugly, the pixel art is actually authentic, and it is a very fast way of working once you get the workflow down, just ask Stoo Cambridge!!!"

I am finding the funding process hard, to say the least. There isn't a subcategory for retro inspired and authentically built board games on Kickstarter ;) - So promoting this is becoming seriously difficult.

The first 80 backers that I have had in this initial week, are all of those who have backed my previous games. Promotions right now in the world of privacy updates and Meta worried about being banned in the western world has meant that advertising is harder than ever before for the indie creator. All I really have is Sub Reddit groups like this one and maybe a few podcasts. It is really getting harder and harder for the little guy to send their project(s) out into the world.

But thank Zues for the Retro Community!

Miraculously my good friends at r/thisweekinretro will be interviewing me this week. I have been helping out with Neil Thomas', genius, inspiring and super thoughtful, RMC The Cave Exhibition here in Stroud. And my old friends, of which I am a patron of The Retro Hour podcast have been in discussions to have a mention at some point with me this month as well, fingers crossed Dan and Ravi.

I just hope that I can convince the retro community to back something being built on the Amiga that isn't a new shooter, or platformer, but something totally different.

I hope you can see that by supporting my project in this way, you are helping me to keep this brilliant machine's amazing media capabilities alive, in some little, but important way.

Yes sorry, not sorry, here's the link again. Please check out the campaign video and let me know what you think...

Amiga forever!

Are there any archives around of DMCS songs and instruments? It seems that mod music was way more popular but I recently listened to a couple nice songs in DMCS and was wondering if I missed out a bit by never using it.

Please rate my AMIGA600 cleaning results so far. A lot of photos included, do not be scared to check them out.

1st photo is the comparison one. There is more than one. The fact I haven't loss any buttons makes my proud 😂 2 springs under buttons are missing (unless space button has only 1 spring ... i put 3 there left, middle, right) but these spring are easy to replace. I am quite happy with the result. I haven't used the peroxide/UV lamp method at all...

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Is the recommended timing fix for the tf1230 the same as the general for Apollo cards? E123c and e125c removal? Got a tf1230, have a 1d4 board. No boot if the tf1230 is enabled. Just black screen.
