Subject: monitor compatibility question

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

ive got several older commodore computers to include c64, sx64 and vic 20 which are all ntsc and my brother just found a 1084s-p monitor which should work fine on those, but my actual amiga is a pal 500+ so im wondering if the display is compatible, obviously the chroma/luma connection is incompatible but im wondering if this includes the rgb option, i would need a cable to connect the rgb to din so i figure its better to find out before spending anything on it

Subject: Amiga Power All-Time Top 300, my new blog

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

https://amigapowertop300.blogspot.com/

Hi guys, I'm new to Reddit, but I thought r/Amiga would be the best place to tell people about my new blog.

Basically, I took all 292 unique games from the Amiga Power All-Time Top 100 lists (1991 to 1996), added 8 honourable mentions of my choice, and ranked them using a simple algorithm. Every day of 2021 (except Sundays), I'm posting an entry in this big list.

Practically nobody knows the blog exists yet, so the first two months were me just posting for myself, but I would really appreciate it if a few Amiga fans had a look to see what they think. At the end of the year, I'll upload a one-hour video to YouTube featuring short clips of all 300 games. I still haven't decided on all of my 8 honorable mentions: I'm certain about four of them, but I'd welcome suggestions for the other four.

If you would like more information on the format of the blog, just read the opening post:

https://amigapowertop300.blogspot.com/2021/01/welcome-to-blog.html

Hope you guys find it somewhat interesting - it's certainly been fun playing through all these old games, and finding some hidden gems I wasn't aware of. Enjoy!

Subject: SCSI Zip Drive with Amiga 1000

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Hoping someone can help...

Growing up, I had an Amiga 1000 with an external disk drive, a Comspec NV RAM module and an external zip drive. Left it behind in my parents' house when I moved out many years ago.

My dad was recently cleaning out the house and asked if I still wanted it, so I thought "why not?" I'd love to try getting it going again and playing some Dark Castle. 😁

Thing is, I can't remember how the SCSI zip drive was hooked up... I vaguely recall having to use some kind of adapter between the male 25-pin parallel port and the male 25=pin zip SCSI cable but can't find it amongst all the paraphernalia.

Any thoughts? Do such adapters still exist? Are there different/better solutions available now?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks in advance!

Subject: Help finding RGB input pinout for Magnavox RGB Monitor 64

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I just got this monitor, it is a Magnavox RGB Monitor 64. It has TTL RGB via an 8 pin DIN connector. I am trying to figure out the pinout so that I can get a Scart cable built for it. Here are pics of the monitor:

I think it was originally used with an Amiga. Anyone here know the specs, or where I can find more info on this monitor?

Subject: Best option to connect A500/ A500+ to LCD?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Hello dear Amiga fans, I’m a proud owner of two Amigas 500, one is a Plus model. They are stored in a closet in a almost pristine condition and 10 years ago were opened to remove the batteries. I assume they still working... I want to get them out of darkness and use them, and show to my son what computing and gaming was to to be some 30 years ago. But I missing the monitor...

My question is: what is the best option to connect an A500 to a modem lcd. I have an 17’’ eizo l768 one with VGA and DVI inputs, capable for a refresh rate of as low as 24.8kHz and a common 27” LCD TV with HDMI, Scart and RCA inputs.

Thank you

make a disk (adf file) bootable

I'm trying to make a disk (adf file) bootable, using fs-uae and CLI "install" command. Saving and loading some text file works, but on "install" it says "unable to read from or write to volume". Whoops. I think I've done this before. What am I missing...?

Subject: DOS library Delay() - 50 ticks per second?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

The autodocs for DOS library "Delay(ticks)" function say it's 50 ticks per second. Is this valid for both PAL and NTSC Amigas, and is it screenmode independent?

Subject: FIFA International Soccer on Amiga

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

For context, the Amiga is my favourite home computer of all time.

But why was FIFA so good on the Genesis/MD and SNES at that time yet terrible in the Amiga?

Hope it’s cool to post my video here, would love to get some discussion going on this.

Me and a good friend are making a series talking at all the bad and good football games over the decades.

We'd love you all to come and get involved.
