New past-time. Rather than posting or engaging on social media, just log in, read comments, and anyone who irritates you the slightest bit, instant block them, then Like or Upvote any comments against them - so that they know someone who has blocked them is disagreeing with them. Bonus points, get the person disagreeing with them to respond to you, so they can see only half of the conversation.

Do it just to annoy that person. Next level trolling.

I'm a genius.

Yeah, I know this has been the general, conventional wisdom on this - and in the past, I'd have been the first one agreeing with you.

I am making it *blatant* that this is *exactly* what I am doing, and it is intentional - kind of embracing it. You've got to make it clear that you're self aware this is what you're doing, and you're doing it with specific intent.

It makes it different. Those weak ass losers don't *know* they're being weak ass losers - being unreasonable.

I'm making sure you know that is EXACTLY what I'm doing, and I'm doing it maliciously and intentionally.

It changes the whole rationale. I bet more people pick up on it, shortly. I bet I'm ahead of the trend. It isn't running away.

It is the strongest possibly wording of, "go fuck yourself."

At least, until someone figures out the rebuttal.

I actually had a boss do some variation of this to me in Ohio. We were in a 3 way meeting, and she said something that made my blood boil. She was the COO. Big wig. And I was glaring at her, talking to her, and saying shit that SHOULD HAVE gotten me fired. She had me. Instead, she just ignored me and talked to the other guy in the room, as if I wasn't even there, for the rest of the meeting. I mean, I was saying, "Call the guy who owns the company. One of us won't walk out of this office, the other will never walk into this building. Let's find out!" and it was true, but instead of confronting me, she just absolutely acted as if I wasn't even there. And it was her one moment where she had me seriously on the ropes working there for 6 years. The rest of the time, before, and after, I had her off balance - but she fucking won that round.

She baited me in, got me fucking irrationally furious, and then simply ignored me. I think if I had gotten up on her desk, dropped my khakis, and pissed on her, that might have broke her composure - but nothing short of that kind of self destruction would get her to acknowledge me.

I did respect that. I respected her, that one time.

At one point, she turned to the other guy in the room, and said, "Wow, he is REALLY pissed at me, isn't he?!?" with a chuckle. Like... let me see for just a second that she KNEW... but she directed it to someone else... who was literally sweating bullets and wanted out of there and was trying to be as non-committal as possible in his answers because he was like, "He is HERE, he can HEAR us... he'll take it out on ME!!!"

The 3rd party was terrified. Even in my rage I saw that. He knew I was boiling so bad he thought he might witness a murder. By the time we walked out, I had myself back in composure - but it was awkward with me and that director for weeks afterwards, because I'm sure he thought I was going to push him on the 3rd rail the first chance I got.

It managed to be funny and never really pushed an agenda. The idea of the first female President being an incompetent VP who got promoted to an incompetent President and was surrounded by incompetent staff...

Was pretty interesting. And she was a Democrat.

In that sense it had an Arrested Development vibe. It was not afraid to take on its own biases pretty savagely.

It is certainly ironic - they keep calling their movies subversive. Offending the disempowered majority voice by banding every minority together until you can abuse the majority as a group isn't subversive - it is the tyranny of the majority.

I've been watching James Lindsay like a hawk. He's a mathematician who got sucked into the culture war. And because he's a methodically minded, studious guy, he went and read ALL the foundational works of the post-modernists and their progenitors (e.g. Rousseau).

So then he attacks it like math. He follows the logic tree (or illogic tree) all the way back to where it took an evil turn and burns it in broad daylight. He's brawling on Twitter a lot and living off of book sales. I'll probably go buy some of his stuff on Audible soon.

Anyway, I bring him up because he just addressed the topic mentioned above in a killer video with a couple other blokes who are beating back the social justice tide with impressive results.

https://youtu.be/iLoKoySvxys

They talked about how everything in modern culture has gone from being real, like a wild strawberry, to hyperreal, like a slurpee made of a strawberry soda made of a sugared-up artifical hyperstrawberry flavor of a hybridized strawberry ten times the size and twenty times the flavor of the original wild strawberry.

But I'm happily living here in the woods with an axe and a fire ring and six kids and a flock of chickens laying average-sized eggs. I get plenty of Real and it's very grounding. I was worried I wouldn't be able to give my kids any reality. Fortunately, we made it into a near-ideal situation in time for the kids to have real chores and real dirt under their nails before they grew up, thank God.

I wanted to tie the above thought in a little better but this post composition window doesn't show me the stuff I'm responding to, lol.

The Culture War is a hyperreal war. These people trying to gather a majority by compiling minorities... They're larping a war against a fake orange führer and evoking every compelling thing they can lie into their imagined existence. If you speak the magic misgendering word, I'll have a higher chance of killing myself... Because those are the rules and words are powerful when you live a zero-stakes life where you have to fill the bogeyman slot in your brain with something you can recognize. Hyperreality isn't very fulfilling, sadly. And winning the war didn't get the kids out of the Obamacages. But we'll just rename them... overflow... Uh... Facilities!

{Jon Lovitz voice}

Yeah, that's the ticket.

Anyway, they really have a nostalgia boner for the 60s when Black people were oppressed and it creeps me out. They keep making movies about it. Hey, remember when we finally joined the Republicans and passed the bill? We were the best of all good guys that year! XD Great job, you're the LA Angels still patting their backs for winning that one time in 2002. Anything to keep up that hyperreal team pride to distract from the half-asleep slide into imperial decline. Enjoy your fentanyl, I guess.

You just have to wrap your head around how to do it - it isn't built into the BBS - it doesn't need to be, it is built into the OS and your web browser.

So, on the rest of it, very accurate analysis - The 60s thing is easy.

They're a generation raised BY their BOOMER grandparents who were the 60s counterculture. This happened for a few reasons.

They're Gen X's children, and Gen X didn't have their parents around - because by the 80's the Flower Power Generation was wearing shoulder pads and douchey beards and trying to finance corporate acquisitions so they could afford their BMWs and their coke habits.

So, Gen X grows up as "latchkey kids" because Gen X's parents were Free Love Hippies turned into 80s greedy capitalists.

Gen X starts having kids, and they're like, "you'll be fine, we both have to work - but instead of just sending you home to watch cartoons and engage in underage risky behaviors because you're unsupervised, we're going to send you to kids camp if the Grandparents are unavailable."

The Grandparents, who are now retired and have made all their money in the 80s, are happy to raise the grandkids, because they missed out on it in the 80s, while chasing BMWs and coke habits.

So, the Boomers not only fucked up their OWN children - but once they got a crack at it, they fucked up their CHILDREN'S children, too.

Which is why I get pissed off at Millennials who call members of Gen X "Boomers". They've been fucking up the world since the 60s. The only time they took a break was during the 70s, when they ruined music with Soft Rock, Easy Listening and Disco.

Everything they've ever done to society has been a piece of shit driven by their certainty that they are the chosen generation.

These techniques may seem a little unusual to old school BBSers, because we didn't have these possibilities in a dial up terminal session - and I bet, on some level, you still think of a session within the constraints of a Citadel BBS - even if you use the Web Client instead of the terminal session to connect.

Which is an interesting observation.
